PLACENTIA : School District May Get a New Name

Share

Placentia Unified School District trustees voted Tuesday to consider changing the district’s name to Placentia Linda Unified School District.

Supporters say the new name would better represent the two major areas the district serves, Placentia and Yorba Linda. The Yorba Linda School District merged with the Placentia district in July, 1989. Past efforts to change the name have failed.

District officials say the name change would cost about $37,000, although costs could be spread out over several years in some cases and city governments could be willing to finance the cost of new signs and stationery.

“There are a lot of possibilities for cutting down these costs,” said Kim Stallings, the district’s assistant superintendent for administrative services.

Still, state law requires that buses be repainted immediately if the name is changed, he said. Initial costs of changing the name would be about $8,800, Stallings said.

The board is to decide on the name change April 23.
