PREP ROUNDUP : Abrego Pitches Her Third Perfect Game of Season

Desi Abrego pitched a perfect game, her third of the season, and Saddleback defeated Corona del Mar, 12-0, Wednesday in a Sea View League softball game.

Abrego, a right-handed junior, struck out 12 and hit a home run for Saddleback (8-6, 1-0 in league).

In other Sea View League softball:

University 2, Tustin 1--Visiting University (12-3, 2-0) scored twice in the sixth inning. Lisa McCracken singled and scored on a throwing error after Lisa Whiteley’s sacrifice bunt. Whiteley took third on the play and stole home during a double steal with Shareen Patton, who had walked.

Woodbridge 6, Newport Harbor 0--Allison Ward pitched a perfect game, her second of the season for Woodbridge (11-6, 1-0). Ward also had two hits and two RBIs.

In South Coast League softball:

Capistrano Valley 9, San Clemente 0--Jodi Morris had two hits and scored three runs and Neeta Khamamkar had two hits, two runs and two RBIs for visiting Capistrano Valley (6-4, 1-0).

El Toro 10, Dana Hills 0--Host El Toro (9-10, 1-0) scored nine runs in the first inning and Misty Lauby (8-5) pitched a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts for her fifth shutout.

Irvine 3, Mission Viejo 2 (10 innings)--Karissa Meith doubled to left to score Alleah Poulson with the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. Poulson also hit a base-empty home run in the first, and Jennifer Brundage (10-1) pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts for Irvine (14-2, 1-0).

In Empire League boys’ volleyball:

Cypress 3, Los Alamitos 2--Cypress won its first league match in the team’s two-year history, 15-12, 10-15, 15-5, 4-15, 15-7. Scott Jefferson had nine blocks, and B.J. Ewen and Jason Kirkham had 12 kills each for host Cypress (6-5, 1-2).

Esperanza 3, El Dorado 0--Ryan Delaney had 10 kills and Chris Pitzak had 23 assists for host Esperanza (8-0, 2-0).

In Garden Grove League volleyball:

Garden Grove 3, Kennedy 1--Troy Davis had nine kills for visiting Garden Grove (9-2, 7-0).

Los Amigos 3, La Quinta 2--Richard Amua had 15 kills and eight blocks for Los Amigos. Brad Huss had 15 kills and five blocks for host La Quinta (4-4, 3-4).

Pacifica 3, Rancho Alamitos 0--Tony Howze had 27 assists and Jim Green had eight kills in visiting Pacifica’s 15-4, 15-3, 15-8 victory. Pacifica is 7-3, 6-1 in league.

In Orange League volleyball:

El Modena 3, Western 0--Jeff Sutter had 10 kills and Tuan Nguyen had 34 assists for host El Modena (4-5, 2-1), which won, 15-3, 15-5, 15-12.

Valencia 3, Anaheim 0--DougFinnell had 21 assists and Lyle Castillo had nine kills for host Valencia (9-0, 3-0).

Villa Park 3, Canyon 2--Tim Mitchell had 25 kills and Craig Smith had 20 for Villa Park (4-5, 2-1). Tom Bottiaux had 46 kills and Danny Thomas had 33 for host Canyon (4-6, 0-3).

In Pacific Coast League volleyball:

Costa Mesa 3, Century 1--Mike Degrazio had 10 kills for visiting Costa Mesa (1-7, 1-2), which won its first match of the year, 15-3, 15-4, 12-15, 15-3.

Laguna Beach 3, Trabuco Hills 1--David Berney had 31 assists and Paul Buss had 14 kills and nine blocks for visiting Laguna Beach (6-3, 3-0).

Laguna Hills 3, Estancia 1--Eric Davis had 17 kills for Laguna Hills (4-4, 2-1) which won, 15-9, 10-15, 15-8, 15-13. Matt Fuerbringer had 27 kills for host Estancia (3-7, 1-2).

In Sunset League volleyball:

Huntington Beach 3, Ocean View 0--Byron Augaus had 10 kills and Chris Jones had 32 assists for host Huntington Beach (10-1, 6-0).

Marina 3, Fountain Valley 0--Brant Shelor had eight kills for host Marina (7-3, 4-2).

In Orange League golf:

Western 200, Magnolia 256--Dustin Blood shot four-over 38 for Western (8-2-1, 4-0) at Dad Miller.

In nonleague golf:

El Toro 393, Woodbridge 434 (18 holes)--Ben Garner shot three-over 75 for El Toro (11-2) at El Toro Marine Base.

Marina 378, Tustin 495 (18 holes)--Dan Dalton shot two-over 73 in a two-day tournament where the first nine holes were at Meadowlark Golf Course and the second nine at Tustin Ranch.

San Clemente 398, San Dieguito 448 (18 holes)--Eric Hegerty shot one-under 71 for San Clemente (5-6) at Pacific Golf Club.

In Empire League boys’ tennis:

Esperanza 16, Cypress 2--Mike Hammer won his singles matches, 6-3, 6-2, 6-0, for visiting Esperanza (13-0, 4-0).

In Orange League tennis:

Valencia 17, Savanna 1--Steve Johnson and Ron Lacuata swept in doubles and Roger Okamoto swept in singles for host Valencia (8-3, 3-0).

Western 12, Magnolia 6--James Yu and Anand Jethua each swept in singles and Tom Tran and Quon Tran won in doubles for host Western (8-3, 3-0).

In Sea View League tennis:

University 17, Tustin 1--No. 1 singles player Jason Meyers won three sets without losing a game to lead host University (13-1, 6-0 league). University’s Robbie Wilkins also swept his sets, losing only one game.

Corona del Mar 16, Saddleback 2--Trenton Rhodes swept his singles matches for host Corona del Mar (10-3, 5-1).
