Chamorro Nephew Reported Slain as Rebel in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR —
A high-level Salvadoran rebel commander and nephew of Nicaraguan President Violeta Barrios de Chamorro was killed in an army ambush in El Salvador, rebel sources said Saturday.
Antonio Cardenal, a Nicaraguan whose nom de guerre was Jesus Rojas, was killed Thursday when a truck he was riding in was ambushed by Salvadoran soldiers near the rebel stronghold of Arcatao, 41 miles northeast of San Salvador, rebel sources in Mexico told El Salvador’s Salpress news agency.
