Asbestos Cases Grouped Into One Trial: A Maryland judge has lumped more than 9,000 asbestos disease claims into a single trial in what lawyers called the biggest such consolidation of its kind. The order this week by Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Marshall A. Levin reflects attempts by a handful of judges around the country to try to clear court dockets crowded by claims over the cancer-causing insulation material. More than 100,000 asbestos lawsuits clog federal and state courts nationwide and more claims are filed regularly.
