Time Warner Inc.: The New York publishing and entertainment company reported a first-quarter loss of $50 million, about the same as a year-ago loss of $51 million. Revenue increased 3% to $2.841 billion. The firm attributed the loss to interest expense and the accounting treatment related to its 1989 acquisition of Warner Communications Inc. It noted, however, that its three businesses in the video entertainment group--filmed entertainment, HBO and cable--had record performances in the quarter and that its overall operating results held steady despite a weak world economy, especially in the advertising marketplace.
