The Norwegian government says it will not hunt any whales this year. The year will thus be the first “since the 16th Century that Norway hasn’t killed any whales, and I am happy for that,” said Bjoern Oekern of the Greenpeace environmental group. The International Whaling Commission has banned Norway and other countries from commercial whale hunting but allowed them to kill a few whales each year for “scientific purposes.”
