WORLD IN BRIEF : SOVIET UNION : Lithuania Customs Post Is Occupied

Soviet troops occupied a Lithuanian customs post for several hours. Valerionas Valitskas, deputy head of Lithuania’s customs service, said a truckload of soldiers took over the Medininkai customs point on the border with the republic of Byelorussia and severed communications lines. Earlier, a spokesman for Lithuanian President Vytautas Landsbergis told reporters that authorities had reliable information that Soviet troops would seize key buildings in Vilnius, the capital, over the weekend.
