PLATFORM : When Choice Is Denied

This is ridiculous. When people come into a bar they know it’s not a health club. We don’t hold them captive. They walk in, see people smoking and don’t want to stay, that’s their choice. When the city says no one can smoke anywhere in town, they’ve taken that choice away. If I worked at some place that caters to children, I’d say fine. But when you’re in a bar where everyone is over 21, I think those adults should be able to make their own choice.

It’s all wrong. Employees like me are being cited, not the smokers. I was hired to serve drinks, not be a police officer. I don’t have any special training. It’s bad enough when you get a 6-foot 2-inch, 300-pound drunk. Now I’m going to make him put out his cigarette?
