Arts and entertainment reports from The Times, national and international news services and the nation's press

Warning Signals: Two new proposals to curb explicit pop music lyrics have been introduced in the Louisiana State House of Representatives by Rep. Ted Haik (D-New Iberia). The legislation would target retailers selling “lyrics harmful to minors” with a maximum fine of $1,000 or six months in prison or both, and seek to punish corporate officers of companies that produce, manufacture and distribute potentially offensive music with fines of up to $3,000 a recording. Haik’s 1990 warning-sticker bill was passed by the state legislature in July but vetoed by Gov. Buddy Roemer.
