Varco International Inc.: The Orange manufacturer of oil- and gas-drilling equipment reported first-quarter earnings of $3.2 million, more than double the $1.4 million recorded a year earlier. Revenue rose 98% to $46.4 million from $23.4 million. Varco attributed the higher results in part to acquisitions made in May and November of 1990.
