COUNTYWIDE : Doctor Suspended by Medical Board

A Fullerton radiologist who was convicted in 1989 of a lewd act with a minor has had his license suspended for 120 days and has been placed on five years’ probation, a spokeswoman for the Medical Board of California said Monday.

Under terms of an agreement with the board, Dr. William F. Pfisterer, 48, also is required to undergo psychiatric treatment and provide 240 hours of work in an approved community service program, the board said.

The board filed charges of violating the state business and professions code after Pfisterer was convicted in Los Angeles County of committing a lewd act with a child under the age of 14.

As a result of the conviction, Pfisterer was sentenced to a year in jail and placed on probation. However, Pfisterer entered a work furlough program that allowed him to work in a hospital radiology department during the day and spend nights in custody at a work furlough facility.

Pfisterer was released from the work-furlough program after seven months.

If Pfisterer returns to work as a radiologist after his suspension is lifted, he must be monitored by another physician within the same medical corporation. The monitoring physician must make periodic reports to the Medical Board.

In other business, the Medical Board accused Huntington Beach physician Jasmine Moini of gross negligence, unwarranted treatment and fraudulent altering of medical records during treatment of half a dozen patients. The board recommended that her license be revoked or suspended if the charges are upheld at an administrative hearing.

Neither Pfisterer nor Moini could be reached for comment.
