From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The eighth and last defendant in the Bensonhurst racial attack that left a 16-year-old black youth dead was sentenced to a fine, three years’ probation and 200 hours of community service. Justice Thaddeus Owens of the trial court in Brooklyn said evidence against Pasquale Raucci, 21, was not sufficient to sentence him on charges of menacing and unlawful imprisonment for which he could have received four to 12 years in prison. Raucci had been charged with being part of a gang of about 30 white youths who attacked four black youths in the mostly white Bensonhurst neighborhood in Brooklyn Aug. 23, 1989. Yusuf Hawkins was shot and killed.
