An instructional specialist from the Alhambra City and High School Districts won a $3,000 fellowship and was honored in Washington on Wednesday by First Lady Barbara Bush for an innovative program that uses computers to hook local students up with children around the world.

Bonnie Price was one of seven educators nationwide who won the Business Week/Challenger 7 Fellowship. The program is co-sponsored by the magazine and the Challenger Center for Space Science Education, an organization founded by the families of the seven crew members killed in the Challenger shuttle crash.

Price, who works in the Office of Instructional Technology in Alhambra, received the award for designing a computer program that connects Southern California schools with those in five different countries so that students can exchange information about their respective cultures.
