N.Y. Police End Sit-In at 3 Campuses; 12 Held
Three hundred police descended on three City University of New York campuses early Saturday, routing demonstrators who had been occupying academic buildings and arresting 12 students who refused to leave.
The six men and six women, who were protesting tuition increases, were removed from two classroom buildings at Lehman College in the Bronx and arrested on charges of contempt of court and criminal trespass. They were later released, police said.
Police also entered the campuses of New York City Technical College in Brooklyn and York College in Queens, but they met with no resistance.
A university system spokeswoman said classes would resume at the three colleges Monday.
