Importing the ‘Abortion Pill’

Share

The author of the editorial on RU-486 is sadly mistaken to think that a pill can alleviate the “emotionally painful experience” of abortion for women. No one is emotionally scarred by an appendectomy or tonsillectomy; that women are deeply affected by abortion has much less to do with the method than the reality that human life has been terminated. Furthermore, common sense (and experience in France with RU-486) tells us that self-induced abortions can exacerbate the guilt and suffering which women face. Keep your RU-486 for cancer research, but don’t hide behind a facade that abortion can ever be simple and painless.
