Handi-capable

Share

Open your mind--you should learn this in a snap.

There’s a better term to use than “Handicap.”

Handi-capable, I prefer to be named,

I may be physically disabled, but I’m not ashamed!

Sure, life is tough--it’s an everyday battle.

But I’m a survivor; I refuse to be rattled!

I meet a challenge eye-to-eye, and clench my fists.

Giving up quickly is a path I resist.

So, please ask me questions if you’re curious.

I’ll be glad to answer! Not hurt or furious.

I have limitations--yes, that’s true,

but I’m a normal human equal to you.

I have dreams and wishes, ambitions and hopes.

Nothing is impossible, ‘cause I’ve learned to cope!

I might be in a wheelchair, or maybe deaf or blind,

but that won’t restrict me; for no dream’s too far to find.

I’m Handi-capable, no sympathy needed.

I reject my obstacles and refuse to be defeated.

Frustrations come, and I’ve felt like I’ve suffered,

but I’ve lived and learned, and now I’m tougher.

I challenge life--why should I fear it?

It can break my flesh, but not my spirit!

The Good Lord’s given me a mind and soul.

I’m Handi-capable: and in total control.
