From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said it is investigating Sequoyah Fuels Co. because of toxic uranium concentrations found in underground water in Gore, Okla. Sequoyah is one of two U.S. factories that process uranium for conversion to nuclear fuel. According to NRC reports, investigators have learned that workers complained of burns and blisters from working in the uranium-contaminated water, that the overflow of contaminated liquids was the only way for crews to know that some storage tanks were filled and that contract workers at the excavation where the water was found were not properly trained.
