A Broader Problem Than ‘Cops and Kids’

Share

“Cops and Kids: Fear Fuels Cycle of Distrust” (April 22) was interesting reading. Yet, I am sorry that reporter Gary Libman focused on the police harassment of blacks.

I am white. Yet I too grew up with the unnecessary stops and detentions by police bullies. I learned very young that police will pick on those who are less than wealthy, regardless of skin color. In my youth, even hair length was cause for an illegal violation of civil rights.

While some things never change, I do think it is about time police practices conform to the myth we are taught as children--that the police are there to help us, not to harass us.
