National Technical Profit Falls Despite Revenue Rise

National Technical Systems Inc., a Calabasas-based provider of engineering and testing services, said its fiscal fourth-quarter profit fell 30% from a year earlier despite a 65% surge in revenue.

In the quarter ended Jan. 31, National Technical’s net income fell to $92,000 from $131,000 a year earlier, while revenue climbed to $11.7 million from $7.1 million. The company blamed the lower earnings on poor results by its recently acquired S&W; Technical Services unit, which provides support services to the nuclear power industry. However, the acquisition accounted for much of National Technical’s revenue growth.

For its full fiscal year, National Technical reported a 13% profit decline, to $762,000 from $880,000 the previous year, but its annual revenue rose 18% to $35.5 million from $30 million.
