Third-quarter 1990 retail sales showed just the smallest signs of a recession beginning to bite in Orange County. Retail activity dropped 0.8% from the previous quarter and was also down 0.7% compared to third quarter 1989. Thirteen cities actually recorded higher retail sales over the 1989 third quarter, with the largest taking place in Fountain Valley. The largest decline, 13%, was recorded in Cypress.
