TUSTIN : Historical Society Plans a Victorian Tea

Share

The Tustin Area Historical Society will have a Victorian tea on Saturday that will include scones and people in Victorian-era costumes.

Tea will be served at the two-story Italianate-style home of Jeff and Cherie Thompson at 415 W. 6th St. Those entertaining will include a barbershop quartet, quilters and Opal Kissinger, who will portray the turn-of-the-century actress Mme. Helena Modjeska, who spent a lot of time in the Tustin area.

“Basically what we’re trying to do is call attention to the Tustin Area Historical Society and attract new members,” said Merry Powers, who is chairing the event with Sharri Miller. The group now has about 400 members.

The Thompsons’ house is one of fewer than 25 Victorian Italianate homes remaining in Orange County. It was built between 1882 and 1886 on property once owned by the sister of Columbus Tustin, founder of Tustin. Men who played major roles in the settlement of Tustin were among the early residents of the home.

The Thompsons moved the house last spring from its original place on 1st Street.

The tea will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5, in advance or at the door. For tickets and more information, call (714) 544-2414.
