Unocal Corp. has named Thomas B. Sleeman, now a senior vice president, to the additional post of chief financial officer, succeeding Claude S. Brinegar, who is retiring. Sleeman, 58, formerly president of Unocal chemicals and minerals division, takes over the top financial job immediately. Brinegar, 64, who has been with Unocal since 1953, will remain vice chairman of the board and executive vice president of administration and planning until his retirement next year. Neal E. Schmale, 44, now senior vice president for corporate development, will take on additional duties, succeeding Sleeman as president of the chemical division.
