ORANGE : City Seeks Name for Its Recycling Mascot

Share

The city’s recycling mascot, a perky-faced character shaped like an orange, is in need of a name.

As part of an effort to educate children about recycling, a citywide contest to dub the character is open to any kindergarten through sixth-grade student who is a resident of Orange. The winner will receive a $200 U.S. Savings Bond and six semifinalists will each receive a $50 savings bond.

“We feel it is necessary to stress the importance of the recycling ethic at the early ages,” said Nanci Gee, recycling coordinator. “This will be part of their lifestyle in their adult years and it will be valuable to start habits of environmental responsibility early on.”
