Suspect in Gang Deaths to Be Tried as Adult
A juvenile court commissioner Thursday ordered a 16-year-old Hollywood boy to stand trial as an adult for allegedly shooting to death three youths after one of the victims shouted a rival gang’s name. If convicted, Oscar Mora could be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Police Lt. Brad Merritt said the sentence would be the first imposed as a result of a 1991 law ruling out parole for defendants under 18 convicted of multiple murders. Juvenile Court Commissioner Karen Nudell ordered Mora to stand trial as an adult and transferred him from the Westlake Juvenile Dentention facility to the County Jail.
Mora faces three counts of murder in the April 10 slayings of three Hollywood teen-agers and the wounding of a fourth.
