Gang Violence and Gun Control

After reading of Ashley Johnson’s untimely death, I’m compelled to write at this hand-slapping sentence (Metro, April 30). What’s wrong with a justice system where if a killer “feels” remorse he goes free? Killings will continue to go unchecked if we let killers off with such light sentences. What’s the deterrent? The sentencing judge is as guilty as the defendant for not imposing a just sentence.

It’s high time judges impose maximum sentences and lawyers quit tying up the justice system with frivolous appeals so justice may be carried out and convicted murderers executed. Maybe then would-be murderers would think twice before going on a random killing spree.
