Cynthia Kurtz, a four-year Pasadena city employee, has been named director of the city’s Public Works and Transportation Department. She will be paid $87,218 annually to manage 285 employees and oversee a yearly operating budget of $27 million.
Kurtz, 39, has been acting director since the resignation last September of former Director Tom Wood. She was selected from among more than 100 applicants.
Formerly administrator of transportation planning and finance for the city of Portland, Ore., Kurtz has a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree from the University of Iowa.
