‘Thinning Out’ Is Fine--for Weeds
The article “Council Rejects Hiring Hall and Urges Crackdown” concerned me greatly, an article so full of bigotry and racism and total disregard for what should be a natural human concern on the part of Councilwoman Jo Anne Darcy.
When she said, “I don’t want to be a bleeding heart all my life. . . . If you thin out the day laborers, you’ll thin out your barrio too”--what exactly is she referring to? I had no idea the barrio needed “thinning out.” Is she really referring to human beings in this way? It sounds like she’s talking about weeds.
Surely if the barrio needs thinning out, then many other communities need thinning out too--or is it just that Hispanics are too darn prolific?
Most of the people living in the barrio have been here for years as citizens.
Why single them out?
Don’t you consider them Americans too, councilwoman?
Who is going to take the day laborers’ place? I certainly don’t see any white welfare recipients standing down there looking for work. How much tax money is wasted on them?
