A seasonal increase in demand for gasoline pushed prices up by nearly 3 cents per gallon over the past two weeks, according to an industry survey released Sunday.

The average price for all grades of gasoline at full and self-service pumps increased 2.77 cents a gallon to 122.61 cents by Friday, according to the biweekly Lundberg Survey of 13,000 stations nationwide.

The price increase reflected a continuing surge in motorist demand during the warmer months, said industry analyst Trilby Lundberg.

Lundberg noted that prices are at the highest levels for this time of year since 1985. The national average in May, 1985, was 122.68 cents a gallon. In May, 1986, the price dropped to 94.03 cents because of a global oil glut, she said.
