FULLERTON : Motorcyclist Dies in Freeway Accident

A 32-year-old man driving a motorcycle on the Orange Freeway died Monday after he struck a car in traffic, fell off his cycle and was run over by a van, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.

Michael L. McDaniel of San Bernardino was pronounced dead on arrival at UCI Medical Center in Orange, said CHP Officer Angel Johnson.

McDaniel was traveling south on the freeway at about 25 m.p.h. when he struck the rear of a small car driven by Roanne P. Lumba, 26, of Rowland Heights, Johnson said. The accident occurred south of Yorba Linda Boulevard.

McDaniel was thrown into the air and landed in the path of a van driven by Robert W. Duncan, 35, of Hemet, Johnson said.

McDaniel, who was wearing a helmet, suffered massive internal injuries. He was taken to the medical center where he was pronounced dead about 20 minutes after the 7:15 a.m. accident, Johnson said.
