Think Tank May Be Hired to Study Gang Violence

Share

Noting that gang violence has killed more than 200 people in Los Angeles County this year, supervisors Tuesday approved the concept of hiring a consultant to devise a solution.

The motion was introduced by Supervisor Kenneth Hahn, who said, “innovative new ‘think tank’ approaches should be studied and all our resources pooled to end the nightmare of gang violence.”

Hahn’s motion authorizes a $50,000 “reward” for such a program. The board voted 4-0 to request the chief administrative office to return in two weeks with a proposal that can be sent for bid to various “think tank” consultants. Supervisor Gloria Molina abstained, but did not rule out supporting the proposal once it is developed and appears to have merit.
