Police are investigating what appears to have been a gang-related shooting that claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy Tuesday night.
My Van Phan, of East San Diego, died of a gunshot wound to the chest around 10 p.m. despite efforts by firefighters and paramedics to revive him. The San Diego Police Department had been notified of an accidental shooting at Phan’s residence, but later determined that the shooting ended an altercation between Phan and another alleged gang member.
No arrests have been made, but police think they have a suspect, Lt. Dan Berglund said.
