OXNARD : Elementary District Eliminates 34 Jobs

Share

The board of the Oxnard Elementary School District has abolished 34 positions, ranging from school office manager to custodian.

Out of the 34, 21 or 22 employees will actually be laid off. The others will be lost through retirement or resignations, said Martha Wright, director of classified personnel.

The district, the only one in the county that has year-round schools, is cutting more than $3 million from a projected $51.3-million budget to meet the shortfall of funds because of the state’s budget crisis.

Projected savings to the district through the employee cuts are unknown at this time because employees who have seniority and receive higher pay will replace lower-paid workers, a district official said.
