COUNTYWIDE : Foot Doctors Seek Shoes for Homeless

Share

A group of Ventura County foot and ankle doctors has launched a campaign to collect shoes for the homeless.

The “Let Someone Else Fill Your Shoes” drive will last until the end of the month, said Dr. Stephen J. Seymour, a Thousand Oaks foot doctor and president of the Ventura County Podiatric Medical Society.

The group hopes to collect at least 1,500 pairs of usable new and used shoes, Seymour said. The shoes will be distributed to homeless people through the Ventura County Rescue Mission in Oxnard.

“The rescue mission is expanding, and we need as many as we can get,” he said. “They need to be shoes that are still in fairly decent shape and that don’t have a wear pattern that’s significant.”

Donors can deposit the shoes at 14 collection centers at podiatrists’ offices located in Ventura, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Camarillo, Santa Paula and Thousand Oaks.

For locations of the collection centers, donors can call 656-FOOT or Seymour’s office at 497-7822.
