Ride, Sally, Ride: It wasn’t a Mustang but a four-wheel drive vehicle that police say soul singer Wilson Pickett used to drive over his neighbor’s lawn sometime after the midnight hour Tuesday. Pickett, 50, should have known that police would respond to the incident. The lawn in question belongs to the singer’s next-door-neighbor of 20 years, the mayor of Englewood, N.J. Pickett was jailed for drunken driving and two other charges; he posted bail Wednesday.

Welcome, Counselor: Marilyn Quayle, wife of Vice President Dan Quayle and a lawyer, was admitted on Wednesday to the bar of the United States Court of Military Appeals. Mrs. Quayle has not practiced in the Washington area but “might in the future,” said an aide, Marguerite Sullivan. The court handles court-martial appeals from all service branches.

Norman Schwarzkopf says an 8-year-old girl’s lucky rabbit’s foot “certainly does work.” Now that he’s finished with it, he has returned it with a note to Katie Crammer of Hibbing, Minn., who had sent the lucky charm to Schwarzkopf in January before the ground war began in Kuwait. Said Katie: “I thought if the war didn’t go well for him, it would help.”

It Looked Old: A painting of Niagara Falls that has hung unappreciated in an Old Lyme, Conn., town building for 60 years has turned out to be a major work of art with an appraised value of $500,000 to $1 million. “Niagara,” an 1855 oil painting by John Frederick Kensett, hangs above a copying machine in Eno Memorial Hall. The local gallery owner noticed the Kensett painting last month. “It’s a big find,” said Elizabeth Kornhauser, a curator at Hartford’s Wadsworth Atheneum Museum. “It’s a major work by a major artist that was previously unknown.”
