Fleming Event Boosts City of Hope

City of Hope will receive more than $250,000, proceeds from the April 29-May 2 Woman of the Year tribute to Rhonda Fleming. The four-day event, including a black-tie evening gala and three luncheons at the Beverly Hilton, was sponsored by Sportsmen’s Club of City of Hope. Since the club’s founding 53 years ago, it has raised $70 million. The April 29 gala was chaired by Muriel Lilien and Estelle Silberkleit.

* The Opera Buffs’s benefit March 17 at the J. W. Marriott netted $37,000. Proceeds will give financial aid to promising young singers.

* Love Is Feeding Everyone benefited by more than $60,000, net proceeds from the sixth annual Celebrity Luncheon March 21 at the Beverly Hilton. The event, sponsored by Lifesavers, an auxiliary, was attended by 600 guests. The money will help to continue LIFE’s efforts in feeding the homeless in Los Angeles.

* Los Angeles Theatre Center’s outreach educational program, Theatre as a Learning Tool, received $15,000 from the Spring Masque event April 29 at the theater. The program trains minorities in all facets of professional theater.

* Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and five other charities--Centinela Valley YMCA, Torrance YWCA, Harbor Gateway/Torrance Outreach Program, South Bay Free Clinic and March of Dimes/Birth Defects Foundation (Orange County Chapter)--shared a $15,000 donation from members of Hughes Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union as part of the credit union’s 1991 Charity Donation Program.
