Discrimination and Racial Quotas

Page’s column pointed out the hypocrisy of those who criticize universities for changing their standards of acceptance according to a person’s color. Page cleverly used the example of our vice president to illustrate his point. Does anyone stop to complain about the children of privileged parents who are accepted into colleges based not on their own merit, but on how much money the family may contribute to the school’s endowment? And what about the tradition of accepting children of alumni? Let’s face it, standards for entrance to universities are subjective. It’s time to take issue with the privileged people who are accepted into college based on their economic background and not their brains.
