NATION IN BRIEF : KENTUCKY : Governor’s Wife Pulls Out of Race

Martha Wilkinson ended her campaign for the Democratic nomination to succeed her husband as governor in Kentucky. She said it had become clear she could not win the race and her continued presence was distracting attention from issues she considered important. The primary is May 28. A recent newspaper poll found that she was favored by only 12% of those surveyed. Gov. Wallace Wilkinson is barred by state law from seeking another term.
