LAST WORDS ON ‘PSYCHO’

Share

Did any one of the people who responded to Henry Bean’s review have any clue at all to what he or she was saying? Did any of them even bother to read the whole book, or did they just read the “nasty” parts? Did any of them read it at all? Obviously not, or the entire letter section of the April 7 Book Review would have been devoted to worthwhile responses.

Let me clear the record of all ignorance. “American Psycho” deals with the horrors of our society, the numbness it causes, and the passive, closed way every one of us deals with it. Yes, it is a shock, but how else can anyone reach our society without knocking it full force onto the ground?

Unfortunately, with all the immoral goings-on around us that we barely notice on a day-to-day basis, someone has to make us aware. Someone has to stand up and scream, “Look what you’re doing!!” Bret Easton Ellis is that person, and like it or not, every page of “American Psycho” is so on target that it has everyone scared to death. And it should.
