Pomona : 10 Groups to Receive Grants

Ten community organizations will share $120,000 in federal funds under a Community Development Block Grant program approved by the City Council last week.

The allocations include $19,500 to the Pomona Valley YMCA Leadership Academy and $15,000 each to the House of Ruth shelter for battered women, Pomona Valley Youth Employment Services, Project Sister’s program to educate junior high school students about date rape and the Soledad Enrichment Action Youth Development Program to combat gangs.

Other grants include $10,500 to Family and Community Educational Services for anti-gang work and $7,500 each to the Boys and Girls Club, Foothill AIDS, Vineyard Jobs and the West End YMCA.

The grant recipients were recommended by the city’s Community Life Commission, which reviewed 22 funding applications.
