Block Grant Funds Allocated

Share

The Carson City Council last week allocated $1.1 million in Community Development Block Grant Funds, a significant portion going to park improvements and to several service programs that benefit low- and moderate-income residents.

About 35% of the allocation, or $400,000, will be used to renovate Dominguez Park on the city’s east side. The park is scheduled to close June 1 for nine months during the construction of a new multipurpose center and refurbishing of baseball diamonds and play areas.

The council allocated $170,700 for public service programs. Of that amount, $110,000 went to the Carson Guidance Program, which provides mental health services to elementary and junior high school students in Carson.

Another $150,000 went to the city’s anti-graffiti program and $189,700 was allotted in loans and grants for home improvements. The remaining funds cover administrative and operating costs.
