Promenade at Issue

In response to architecture critic Aaron Betsky’s article on Third Street Promenade (Times, May 2):

Betsky should stay in West Hollywood, where their main street, Santa Monica Boulevard, is a garish, nondescript eyesore. The Promenade is a great improvement and a wonderful addition to Santa Monica. It is a place where people of all incomes can find enjoyment. His criticisms of the benches not being comfortable for the homeless, and of the lighting fixtures being “anonymous” are just sour grapes. Santa Monica did something right, for a change, and provided a safe and clean environment for all to enjoy.
