The city has been given two awards for excellence in preparing last year’s budget report, city officials announced last week.

The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers named Mission Viejo one of 114 cities in the state whose budget reports met a “high level of quality in annual financial statements.”

City accountant Patricia Brunell will accept the award on behalf of the city at tonight’s City Council meeting.

Mission Viejo was also honored by the Government Finance Officer’s Assn. of the United States and Canada. That organization gave Mission Viejo its Distinguished Budget award for the city’s 1990-91 budget.

Mission Viejo was among 23 California cities and 340 local governments in North America to receive the award. Josephine Julian, a senior finance analyst for the city, will accept the commendation at Monday’s council meeting.
