FDA Cracks Down on Cholesterol Claims: The Food and Drug Administration charged that pictures of a heart and the phrase “No cholesterol” on the labels of Mazola and Crisco corn oils were misleading under federal law and asked the oil makers to advise it “as soon as possible” of their plans for revising the labels. The FDA issued warnings in virtually identical letters faxed to CPC International Inc. of Englewood Cliffs, N.J., which makes Mazola oil products, and Procter & Gamble Co., of Cincinnati, which makes Crisco products. The FDA also warned privately held Great Foods of America Inc. of Cresskill, N.J., to revise the labeling for its Heartbeat Canola Low Erucic Acid Canola Oil.
