Community Groups Join to Clean Up Graffiti

Share

Six community groups spent Thursday sandblasting and repainting graffiti-covered walls in a 20-block area of South-Central Los Angeles.

About 45 people helped to wipe out the work of “taggers” on Main Street between Washington and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards, said Robert Valdez of the Board of Public Works.

Valdez said this is the first time that the groups, including the Los Angeles Conservation Corps and the Boys and Girls Club of Venice, have joined forces to clean up a neighborhood. “They wanted to get together and go into a particular area to get as much graffiti out as they could,” he said. The groups will assess their efforts and, if found successful, will concentrate on a different trouble area every month, he said.
