Man Who Regularly Hit His Goat to Make It Mean Is Gored to Death
A man was gored to death by the 100-pound goat he had been beating in an effort to make the animal mean, authorities said.
Carl Hulsey, 77, a retired poultry worker, was prodding his goat, Snowball, with a stick Thursday when the animal butted him twice, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Investigators said Hulsey pulled himself onto the front porch of his home, but the goat followed and rammed his horns into the man.
Hulsey had owned the goat for the past year and was beating it regularly with sticks to make it wary of people, said Cherokee County Coroner Norman Sosebee, who was familiar with the victim.
“He was doing it basically to make a watchdog out of it,” Sosebee said.
Animal control officials picked up the animal, but had not decided what to do with it.
