Video-a-Go-Go

The must-see party video being talked about on the underground club circuit includes Belinda Carlisle and Kathy Valentine of the rock band the Go-Go’s. The tape, which includes sex and a discussion of drugs, was purportedly made in 1981. It has been available for several months by mail order from an ad in a local underground film and video magazine. Ron Stone of Gold Mountain Entertainment in Los Angeles, who represents Carlisle, said he knew of the video but didn’t know it was being marketed. Said Stone, “It was a very long time ago. I don’t think it was as provocative as it is being represented. But we certainly don’t condone (the sale of) it in any way, shape or form.”

East Coast Sugar Rush

There are Angelenos who would sooner be seen eating sugar from the bag than ingesting a glazed chocolate doughnut with sprinkles at a party. Nevertheless, the deep-fried treats were served up at the cast bash to open the Westwood Playhouse’s new offering, “Other People’s Money,” a play about a doughnut-scarfing Wall Street takeover artist. For the fastidious guest, there were dainty doughnut chunks on silver platters. An informal Buzz survey revealed that the people unashamedly clutching whole doughnuts had New York accents.

Essentials

What you need to maneuver the L.A. scene:

Crucifixes. You might have thought that when Madonna traded crosses for gilded nose-cone bras, that that was the end of the look. Hardly. In clubs, layers of crucifixes are still being worn--heavy silver and gold ones on thick chains or black cords, or pinned to jackets. They’re also layered with peace signs for that on-going ‘60s look.
