Former jockey Bill Shoemaker was transferred to the Craig Hospital rehabilitation facility from the Neurotrauma Unit at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo. Shoemaker, 59, paralyzed from the upper chest down as a result of an April 8 auto accident on the Foothill Freeway in San Dimas, also is talking more and can breathe on his own for up to three hours a day, according to a statement released by Craig officials.
