Crude Supplies Up Sharply: U.S. crude oil supplies rose in the week ended May 18 to 344.9 million barrels from 338.7 million the previous week, the American Petroleum Institute said in its weekly report of energy supplies. The oil industry’s main trade group said that gasoline inventories also rose, to 209.4 million barrels from 206.2 million. Heating oil stocks edged up slightly to 101.9 million barrels from 101.7 million. The API said refineries operated at 86.3% of capacity in the latest week, down from 87%.
