Countywide : Dumping Fees at 2 Landfills to Rise

Share

The dumping fees for Bailard Landfill will be increased by nearly 15% and those at the Toland Road Landfill by nearly 25%, the Ventura Regional Sanitation District decided Thursday.

Beginning July 1, the commercial rate for dumping at the Bailard Landfill in Oxnard will increase from $39.50 per ton to $44.50.

Fees at the Toland Road Landfill near Santa Paula will increase from $33 to $40.50 per ton.

The district, a public agency that provides sewage and solid waste disposal services for eight cities, also voted to increase the charge for dumping at the Ojai Anti-Litter Station from $15 to $17 per visit.

There was no protest from residents or commercial haulers when the district adopted the increased fees.

The Bailard Landfill receives about 1,500 tons of trash a day and the Toland Road Landfill collects about 135 tons a day, district officials said. The amount of garbage, however, is declining annually because of growing recycling efforts, they said.

The increased fees are needed to pay for increased operating expenses and to raise part of the $13.3 million it will cost to close the Bailard Landfill, according to a district report.

An operating permit for the dump expires in late 1993, but district officials have applied to the county for a two-year extension.
