FILLMORE : Plans Revised for Church Project

Share

Faith Community Church returned to the Fillmore Planning Commission Thursday with a plan aimed at making a proposed church and day-care facility more acceptable to neighbors in the upscale Symphony tract.

At a meeting last month, several residents of the tract on the city’s west side objected to the church’s original proposal. The child-care center might be noisy, and security lighting on the property at D Street and Sespe Avenue would be annoying, they said. They were also concerned about increased traffic and complained that the buildings would spoil their view. They said houses would be more appropriate for the site.

Thursday, an architect for the church proposed reducing noise by putting the playground near the rear of the property. Fillmore city planners, however, said the original plan made better use of the lot and suggested a block wall for noise reduction. Planners also said that if houses were built on the site, they would block the view from neighboring residences more than the buildings proposed by the church.

The commission plans to decide between the two versions of the plan at its June meeting. The project will then go to the Fillmore City Council for consideration.
